They reinstated my account today, too. Mine was suspended for months. Someone else I know of, her account was improperly suspended for YEARS, got her account back today, too. Sounds like they identified a real issue and fixed it.

 

did you do a hit that had an extremely large bonus attached to it, especially as a percetage of the pay of the actual hit? I think that was the glitch.

 

does anyone know what is going on on march 10 as far as federal laws and new laws and gig workers? and espeically if or how it affects mturk and us. I have seen in the news it is a big deal for gig workers. idk if that;s true or not.

 

So, I know what you're talking about. I didn't do that exact HIT people are talking about, but I did do a survey for them years in the past, I believe.

I did win one of those bonus lotteries once, but I don't remember the timeline on it, nor how much I actually won. I'm going to try and look through my email because you have me curious now.

 

I don't know how close you were following the current bans, but that "same hit" we all did, I did mine back in October, so it was not an immediate suspension.

 

One hit got you guys all suspended?
Well, I did a CloudResearch SurveyComet hit in October a few years ago and got a CR#2 in January, months later.

This really bothers me that one hit can get so many accounts disabled.
One is too many for a hit, I mean just reject it and move on.
How can this happen?
Who was the requester? I really want to avoid them....

 

the requester was also suspended. you were right all along, it was probably a glitch on mturk's end that was the result of an algorithm.

 

They paid a large bonus, and we all feel that's what triggered it (but Amazon has not confirmed yet), and like @turker said, they were suspended too (and un-suspended with all of us!) they are going to amend their hit to pay differently, and we are still pressing Amazon for a concrete answer to help workers avoid that type of hit in general and also for the requester, so they can continue their study without causing harm.

 

But how can a glitch disable accounts?
This is beyond CloudResearch level fuckery (I hope) to screw over workers for innocently doing a hit. I know some batch requesters use algorithms to approve and reject hits, but to auto disable accounts - seriously, WTF?
Why do I think there's more to this?

 

No employees to actually oversee account issues combined with a bad automated algorithm seems very plausible, if you've ever contacted MTurk support.

 

I hope mturk can fix the glitch in a way that they don't allow any hit with that pay stricture to be posted at all, ever. because I could definietly forget especially after a few years and do somethi g similar agai n.

I wouldn't think it would be difficult, because they already have it i their code to catch hits with pay structured like that and then suspend all involved accouonts. so they should be able to catch the same problem and prevent it from posting in the first placewith the same or similar code.

I think Amazon needs to look in the mirror for concrete answers so they don't screw over turkers again. Ultimately, this is on them.
