Dude, this glorious long haired boy never had 1 flea as long as I owned him. It made my life very easy!

YES, half a pill made him comatose and I lost my damn mind. The vet said he's basically "too fragile for this world." We just threw down like 3k last month after all the vet bills were said and done and I'm constantly paranoid he will get sick again. He tolerates capstar well and it's about the only thing flea wise that doesn't make him sick. I feel horrible cause he's allergic to the fleas too so he gets rashy from the bites. He's been doing much better the last couple weeks though, between the flea catcher and pill and nuking the house with flea spray.

:emoji_heart_eyes: He's so pretty! I love his little white feet, my male has them too.

You and matt are good peoples. What's the point of having these furry companions if not to spoil them and make life as comfortable and fun as possible for them? (And us in the process)

Oh that's super good to know, thank you! And yeah, I'm in northern Illinois. I know the northeast is so much worse, but it's been getting pretty bad here recently, especially in any tall grass/woodsy area. Ugh I'm all itchy now.

If I ever get a tick on me, I think I'd just throw myself into the nearest fire.

    Oh damn.
Baby has a really bad flea allergy and chews her tail raw, but between revo and a small dose of comfortis when it gets bad, she seems to handle it well. Poor bernie sounds like my Kasha. Never know when the last straw will be too much :(
(and of course now I have ANOTHER cat who is a new amputee that possibly has a uti so that's been fun *UGH*)

Felix was a glorious looking dude, I had an American Eskimo dog before that so up until recently I only ever had long haired dogs. I was distraught when Felix passed away, it was hard on me because he was my service dog back when I needed one (and he was a trained search and rescue dog, he was the best!) so we had spent years together 24/7. He went everywhere with me and I took it badly when he passed to the point Matt lent his dog (Franklin) to me because I had never been alone before, I always had a dog with me nonstop. That's how we got Skeeter, when I couldn't bear to leave him behind at a fly in, Matt figured out how to make sure I could adopt him because I was a hot mess. I still crack up at how the shelter wanted to like do a home visit and all this stuff but we didn't live nearby so all the pilots were telling the shelter folks how good of a dog owner I was and the vet that was there kept pointing out how Skeeter was terrified of everyone but me. Skeeter's name was Donnie back then, which I still maintain was fucking stupid, so I changed it. It all worked out and they were delighted to see pictures of Skeeter looking so much happier the next year and still talk about how a dog literally hopping on a plane to go home was about the coolest way a dog has ever been adopted.

Yeah, Bearnie having a block was about the most worried I've been in a long time. I really wasn't sure he would pull through that one. He went from totally fine to dying in a 12 hour window and it wasn't even what he was eating or anything. I hydrate that cat SO MUCH. He now eats me out of house and home with the most expensive cat foods known to man and friggen kitty cat glucosamine and all this bs BUT he's doing really well and perked up over the last couple weeks. He feels well enough to yell at the walls in the middle of the night again, which is both annoying and comforting.

SO CUTE! Felix was a fuzzy little monster, he was a golden retriever/chow chow mix. To this day I'm impressed by his ability to always find the light and turn into the the wind just right so that his fur flowed majestically. Meanwhile, I'd be choking on my own damn hair. Matt always thought I was joking about that until one day he saw Felix stop and take steps to the left, then the right, then a little more to the left and stopped when his fur was flowing behind him. I'm a sucker for a furry dog!

I have 3 (now 4 lol) w/ the bladder problems and we see it all the time at work. It's crazy how fast anything (even people) can decline if they can't pee for a day. Whisker Butt's (new amputee) bill was over a grand, I'm way over that w/ Kasha's care and that's even w/ my work discount. I think Perseus ran us over 5k a few years ago, and in the end there was nothing that could have been done anyways. Just when i was finally out of credit card debt and things were looking up, fucking vet (and my own medical) bills got me in the ass hard

That's an awesome story. I got one of mine from Miami (was near Savannah at the time). Went through some crazy drama between crazy dog rescue ladies on Facebook feuding over who would get to pull the dog from the shelter and keep it until we made arrangements to get him. He was way past due and I was like just someone get me this damn dog please I don't care about your old lady drama. It. Was. Nuts. But a lady was taking a bunch of rescues to some rescue group in Virginia so she offered to swing through. I'll never forget how afraid he was in the parking lot when we met her. I was the only guy he liked, which makes me super sad about his past, but super happy that he doesn't have to worry about that anymore. He was a puppy at the shelter, got adopted and then dumped back at the shelter 10 months later because he was "too big." Those people are the worst...

Yeah, I had seen it go bad quick when I worked in the hospital, it's not pretty when a bladder bursts, so when Bearnie suddenly seemed lethargic and I realized he couldn't pee and then was hurling up the water he drank, I lost my mind and hauled him to the 24 hour vet. Matt thought I might be freaking out over nothing but was glad I did once he realized how bad off he was. We were supposed to go on vacation, but we spent that money on Bearnie instead. Hotels are refundable, cats are not! He was on good food already but now he's on the cat food of royals. He really likes orijenn, though my wallet wishes he didn't so much, and he's been super perky with the switch. I feed him Orijenn and Wysong Uretic once a day with bone broth (he enjoys that A LOT) and then wet food/vital/stella and chewys/whatever moist in the evening. I even got him a circulating fountain. The glucosamine and such has helped too. He pees like a champ. I cheer when he pees. I have lost my mind a little bit.

Yeah, some people suck. My first dog got repeatedly dumped at the shelter (something like 8 times in 4 years) for being too high energy and he was a purebred Eskie, a dog known for being difficult and high energy. Someone got him from a breeder and then decided they didn't like him. He was a royal pain the ass when I first adopted him, which I'm sure wasn't helped from the revolving door of past owners. The best was when the shelter told me about how he had broken one lady's arm and dislocated a man's shoulder. He was 18 pounds. HOW IN THE WORLD? Seriously, you have to either be 90 and lose your balance or just not pay attention at all to the dog you're walking for that to happen with a dog that size. I had to put him in a harness with a handle and get one of those dog leashes with a water ski handle and a bouncy bungee cord that would snap him back if he tried to pull too much. He eventually got the message that he couldn't drag me around. It's crazy how some people will adopt an animal without actually commiting to them. On the bright side, his adoption fee was 18 bucks because the shelter was convinced nobody would adopt him once they heard all his horror stories. He was a good pupper though. You're good people bro! It's always shitty when someone traumatizes a dog, I remember how awful I felt the first time I gave Skeeter a firm no and he peed himself. I can't imagine what hell he went through that he had that hardcore of a reaction. I'm glad you're little dude has a good home with you and the wifey now!

Yeah Ry had bad separation anxiety when we got him. He'd go to the bathroom if we left even for like 5 minutes. It was so sad and I assume a product of him being abandoned by his last owners. He was also terrified of the bathtub too. Now he digs baths haha

Hey everyone, as I message you from the land of maple syrup, moose, beavers, and hockey. I just want to give a special thanks to America and Americans for being so welcoming to me, and a great neighbour overall. Neither country is perfect, and we definitely have our differences, but we also have 5500 miles of uncontested and peaceful border and I am forever grateful to have stolen one of you and created a little half Canadian-half American boy who will receive a heavy dose of both cultures.

July 1st marks Canada's 150th birthday, so we plan to celebrate it right!
