Actually, now that I think of it, Fiddler is a great tool for intercepting resource requests. I've only used it for replacing server-side Javascript, but you could definitely use it for MP3 files, too.

Just find the resource that's being requested and use fiddler to serve a local resource instead.

My new wage script uses the performance timing API to capture a perfect hourly wage, since it measures from the unload of the previous page.
That's why I call it revolutionary. It's the only popular publicly-released wage script I've seen that does that.

I've disabled/enabled jQuery-based scripts on my low-end machines for testing, and that's about the cost of the bloat I get. $1-$2/hr. I could probably move to a phone or Chromebook and have it make an even more significant difference.

Compounding the problem is that:

- "jQuery-latest" can't be cached via CDN, and
- If you have multiple scripts running using multiple versions of jQuery, you're multiplying the issue.

In bicycle racing, we're accustomed to the philosophy of "marginal gains", by reducing the weight of numerous seemingly-insigificant things until the sum of all our removals reaches significance. We pull a few grams off a wheelset here, some more grams off a seatpost, a few more off the handlebars, upgrade to ceramic bearings to reduce friction, shave our legs for the 8% improvement in aerodynamic efficiency at speeds of 25+mph, etc.

Any one of these improvements seems significant in isolation, but together, the philosophy of trimming whatever you can, wherever you can, leads to significant speed differences.

Stripping jQuery is one of those marginal gains.

The "jQuery cost" is overblown in most web development scenarios, but trying to earn a decent wage on penny HITs is a very particular case.

You need every last performance improvement you can get if you want a penny HIT to be optimal.

I haven't had that problem. I'd suggest not setting a panda for it unless you catch it within 5 minutes of it posting. That might be the main issue because it's a real time HIT. You're waiting for something that's already begun.

 

The question is "Can you write a few lines of code to switch Hit Catcher to Worker" cause nobody can hear you scream on www
