Actually he had a HUGE problem with me having one. It was faster / cheaper to purchase and pay to install it than to argue with him at the time. By the time he discovered that I had installed the ramp (which measures 36" wide 12" deep and 1 1/2" high, we were deep into the discussion about my parking place not being disabled accessible.

The Washington Code states something to the affect that a "VAN" disabled parking place has to be a minimum of 16 feet wide with an additional 8 feet to the side where the wheelchair lift comes out of the side of the van, AND that 8 feet is not be be included in the "normal walkway". I.E. probably somewhere around 28-32 feet total (I think??? I would have to look it all up again.) Any way we went around and around and around about people parking in my parking place AND my not being able to park my van when I would come home AND about people parking in the space between the side of my van where my lift comes out and the next parking space on the other side of the "side walk" entryway.

I pulled out the ol' Law School Degree Card and whipped up a copy of the Washington State Code for him and highlighted in BOLD YELLOW where he could be fined $10,000 per day until such time as his parking lot became compliant. Not only that, the Code also states that the "Manager" of the complex can also be fined the same amounts as they are an agent of the owner. I even offered to have one of the Local Juvenile Court Judges allow me to go up to the local Juvenile Hall facility, pick me up a bunch of teenage "taggers" and stop off at Home Depot for appropriate spray paint and have the kids do it for him! LOL ... You know "Community Service Brownie Points" for the kids!

The Owner decided that maybe I was serious and had the lines drawn. He didn't get the measurements quite right (Missing the width of the sidewalk) but since my BFF has the parking place on the opposite side of the sidewalk, I'm good. I've been here 17 years now and I pretty much get what I need for the most part ... except for the Kid from the Other Side of Creation upstairs practicing his karate, football, kick boxing, temper tantrums etc etc etc LOLOL ... two-year-olds ... a mystery to me ...

You're a lot nicer than me. I would have skipped the whole "I'm going to show you exactly where you're wrong in yellow highlighter" step and let a deputy come by and serve him his notice to appear in court. As someone that has lived with crappy landlords too many times, the laws are there for us to use and protect ourselves.

That is the height from outside cement slab into the livingroom front door. I don't know about building codes, but I am certain these buildings are old enough to get past that hurdle. I believe they used to be Military Housing for JBLM ... long long time ago ...

Anything else you need in perspective? :emoji_kissing_heart:

Haha, most of their old money is tied up in the land and farms and blah blah so they just live a fairly nice middle class lifestyle but damn if I didn't spit out my drink when Matt related being "asked to leave," multiple private schools and his mom just writing a check to keep their mouths shut like it was totally normal. That was the moment where it hit home longer after the planes and such. We just found an extra 36 acres on one of the farms though that had been missed for a couple decades somehow and I just about lost it when we found out the value. At this point it's just sheer dumb luck all the land and whatnot has been in the family for so many generations cause it's skyrocketed in value. Pretty sure we are selling it to pay for whatever house we go with. What is this life where selling extra land is a nice way to pay for a new house?

I say you keep the land and just build a bunch of tiny houses on it for all of us to come live in. However I would need a normal sized house for all my critters ;)

lol nice! Most of my hubby's family money is tied up in their homes (about to sell one of them and it's easily over 1 million) and retirement accounts because his father was super crazy about saving for retirement. So we live a pretty simple life at the moment, but when we needed a loan from the bank of Mom & Dad, it was there. (Turking to pay that one off at the moment). We won't have access to most of the money until after they pass, so I'm totally ok with not seeing it for at least 20 or so more years at a minimum! But it's nice to know that our children (whenever we have any) won't need to worry about college funds and whatnot.

We are eventually building a real Grinchin giant dog kennel type deal- for the cool dogs to stay at with the other cool dogs! Have the plans drawn up and everything when we clear some of the space on the land that will be home to the fish farm and possibly us . Then I can have a herd of dogs running around all the time and it will be the best! Dream come true right there.
