They're just tools, how people use them is often abused, but at the end of the day its much easier than sending an auth request every time you want to leave a review so I do it that way.

For TV specifically its like this:

So you log into TV on turkerview.com. At that point a cookie is created with the details that let TV know you're Noah. On my computer there's one that explains to TV I'm Chris. So on and so forth.

Then you head on over to worker.mturk. TV can no longer track you here, and its kind of unlikely (or at least unreliable) that you still have it open in your browser somewhere else. The only remaining record that you're someone authenticated with TV is that cookie on your PC.

So from mturk you wanna leave a review without having to go all the way to TV - its a super cool feature, and saves you time/trouble + it looks pretty on my end to do. The problem is.. how the heck is TV supposed to know you're Noah & not @ThisPoorGuy or XXXBaNNedForSpaMMing420 or even registered at all? It has no way to instinctively know who is who or where they came from or whats up.

So, along w/ the review, the request appends that cookie data so that TV can figure out who you are & where to put your stuff.

Without it? Death & destruction (or sending full auth requests every time, or easily spoofed data like IP/etc).

So TL;DR: is that just because Facebook abuses the cookie & puts their nasty juices in it they aren't inherently evil & sharing them across sites can sometimes be functionally useful as it goes.
