I was never a huge cat person tbh. I liked them well enough and kittens are so cute, but I was always a dog girl. (also a rabbit lol)

My apartment complex was catching them to kill them and I got really upset and went full crazy lady, just catching every single kitty I could to re-home.

And then I found I couldn't let these little bros go:



I was heinously depressed at the time and my service dog had recently passed away. Next thing Matt knows, I'm flying Skeeter home on a plane from a fundraising event and I have like 2 dozen+ kittens + a foster dog who was supposed to get put down cause they couldn't home her (she now also has a happy home). I went from 0 to crazy cat lady in like 5 minutes flat.

interact with them when they are young. A trick someone told me years ago and I have reccomended to other people is to let them lick baby food (turkey flavored) from your hand, pet and play with them while doing this to this day my cat will take any thing from my hand and comes when ever I hold my hand and make that little nboise people do when trying to call a cat

 

Eh. it depends! Porgy was born in my hands (literally) and has decided I'm his actual Mom, so he's always been extremely well adjusted and friendly to visitors. He's a ham for attention. Bearnie was terrified of all people (including me) but he was very feral and the vet told me I might not even be able to adjust him. It took months of work (and at one point, tuna perfume) and eventually he did this:


He now loves all visitors (except Matt's mom hahaha). I think it just depends. A lot of cats in the shelter are friendly AF and just want love or comfort. It's shocking how most feral kittens were so eager for love and warmth and food that they adjusted pretty fast. Even the ones who started off hiding under my dishwasher for days at a time eventually acclimated and are super affectionate now. I think you get back what you put in most of the time (with a few exceptions cause some cats/dogs/people are just cranky naturally lol).

that sounds like a damn good idea i heard that if you bathe kitties when they are kittens they don't mind the water at all as well.

 

For most of the cats, food and cuddles was like 90% of the battle. Bearnie was so terrified of all people that I used to have to burrito wrap him in a fleece blanket against his will, and get him used to even being near me. I would feed him small bits of tuna and chicken and sing to him and he was not fucking happy with me. One day, he just kinda crawled up on me and licked me. I gave him some food from my hand and he pried the tab off a seltzer can. And that was the day I didn't have to forcibly socialize him anymore.
