You're misunderstanding what I mean by a "code smell". I'm not implying that you just keep the code the same, and simply remove the comments....
Not only is it a truth, but it's also a well-known truth in every programming community. Over-commented code is a code smell.
A major code smell is code that has too many comments. If everything has to be explained away, it might be the case that the code itself is not...
