Sometimes the movie is even better than the book...for me, Children of Men and I am Legend come to mind

meh, i don't know... i know what you're saying, but imo, all art or craft or whatever is an interpretation of an interpretation of an interpretation. even adaptations, remakes, sequels, reinvisionings, reboots. the creator/developer uses their own interpretation because that's what art is, and they also have to appeal to a different target audience. but most of all, some things simply don't translate mediums well because they're inherently different. believe me, i'm a big reader, i totally understand what you're saying, but i try to tell myself (for my own sanity) that it just is what it is.

I'm sorry, if you're talking about the most recent version of "I am Legend / Omega Man" it completely loses the point of the book.

For pure entertainment purposes, I would take the movie over the book. I did like the ending of the book way better though.

LOTR is just about perfect as a book. Movies were about as good as you can make them.

GoT is stupid. I tried watching some of the newer ones. It doesn't even make sense. It has absolutely no relation one scene to the next. Rob Stark is trying to form a co-alition of half-savage northern lords, and his kid sister is arguing with him in front of everyone, and he's not immediately beheaded for weakness? Show doesn't even make sense internally. It's a piece of shit.

I'll end up watching it at some point because I love the book, and Micheal B Jordan is a damn good actor.

This is just giving me uncomfortable flashbacks to the end of Hereditary.

Honestly, I think LOTR worked better as a movie series. I grew up on fantasy like "The Hobbit", but sometimes Tolkien just takes way to long to get to the fucking point.

Agreed. To go off on a slight tangent, I feel the same away about musical covers. If an artist puts a different spin on an original, I can at least find that interesting, even if their rendering doesn't thrill me. But I get frustrated when I hear a cover which is almost unchanged from the original. I wonder why they even bothered.

Excuse me, but the movies did not have Tom Bombadil, which is a huge flaw in and of itself.

For GoT, the books are so well written and interesting and packed with action, that there's really no need to veer off from the source material, as far as major events go. I stopped watching once I seen the show going in that direction, maybe if the changes were better than the books it wouldn't be so bad but they often aren't and a lot of time they don't even make sense in the context of the show's own story.

But then you miss all the songs and poetry!!! Then where will you learn where the lyrics to half of Nightwish's songs come from?

Yeah, because HE IS the thing that goes bump in the night (well day). Which was why it was such a great book ending... twists back before adding twists to everything was cliched.
