I adopted one cat recently and the other was a stray I found in my garage. Both came to me knowing that sound! I discovered they knew it by popping a non catfood can.

I gave in to the begging for wet food when my garage kitty was feeling left out and replaced by LucyCat. Once I gave LottaCat (Garage kitty) wet food, LucyCat was all "FFS! Me too or I will destroy your entire house!"

So they won. But now I have happy cats who are actually starting to tolerate each other. Being woken up at 5:30 am to give wet food (which is how I know they know there is a schedule) is vastly better than being awakened 5 times a night by a pissed LucyCat.
