Would you do another 40 minute/$5 HIT from her right now? If not, then continuing to worry about the rejection is a waste of time, because you'll almost certainly put another 40 minutes into chasing her down, getting her to respond, etc etc. And that extra time is obviously already a low-probability payout.

The only argument to be made for doing much past the first contact e-mail is moral "I am right, I have the high ground, and I need to prove this person wrong and right an injustice done against me." But financially speaking, your time is better spent being put towards HITs that will actually pay out. Leave the crazy moral crusading to other Turkers, most of the time there's some psycho who also did the same HIT and they'll do the heavy lifting for you.
