Can confirm. Took a train to Elkhart, IN with $7,000 in cash strapped to my thigh to buy a car from some dude that barely spoke English.

This sounds like a terrible story but I promise you it was awesome.

 

I wasn't particularly happy about the whole situation. My wife and I were super-poor back then, barely making ends meet with me still in college and new baby. We had maybe $20/month that we would justify spending on something frivolous...and she had "won" these two hockey tickets in a silent auction fundraiser thing at work for $100. ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS! That was nearly a half year of entertainment. And I'm from the sticks of Missouri where hockey was a thing that was on TV once every four years. The seats were nice...center ice, about 11 rows up...but still, hockey? What I didn't know is that this was a home and home series and the previous game in Detroit had been really chippy. So shortly after the game began, the players paired up and started beating the crap out of each other. And then the goalies get into it. My exact quote at the time was "THIS IS $#%^ING AWESOME!"

And then about three decades later, my St Louis Blues finally win the Cup.

And now hockey is dead. Baseball is dead. Football is probably dead. Basketball is lame, so who cares. But college basketball is awesome and it's dead.

 

I went to an Atlanta Knights game back in the 90's that was stopped because of a fan brawl in the stands. The IHL rocked.

Then there was that brilliant decision by the Thrashers to give out aerodynamic, promotional mouse pads before the game. Most of them ended up on the ice because the refs were horrible that night (I think it might have been Crosby's rookie year).
