04/04 - Thread Not Found Thursday!?

When I first moved to the U.S., the consulting firm I worked for at one point decided they wanted to extend their portfolio, and added on Dragon Naturally Speaking. It made sense, given that company's focus on law firms. Anyway, they looked around the office and said "hey, SirKiwi, you're the new expert, here, learn this software".

Well, the technical part, psshhh, that was easy. I could do that with my eyes closed. But - the company only got the vendor version, which didn't come with all the regional language packs.

Can you imagine the success rate of someone brand new to the country who'd only ever spoken New Zealand accented English up to that point, trying to demonstrate how wonderful was this speech-to-text software which only understood an American accent? It was so bad, our sales rates on that software were subterranean.

That company was the worst, but at least it meant I came to the country with a job already lined up. About the only positive thing I can say about them.

 

I'd imagine you at least got some laughs out of reading a few transcriptions, no?

Can I only review HITs done in chrome on TurkerView?

 

Why in the world would you want to leave New Zealand? Everything I have seen about it makes it look so much more desirable than the states

 

TVJS works in firefox as well.

Yeah, I refuse to do that. My soul is worth at least $10.

 

I tried a hit and it wouldn't submit so I went and did it in firefox, but when I opened Turkerview in chrome to review it it said I didn't have any HITs for today.
