We know people that have had that wringer and liked it. When we lived off the grid we had a spinney one we liked from them. It wasn't a wringer, it was similar to this one - https://www.lehmans.com/product/the-laundry-pod-manual-compact-washer/

I think Lehman's has a generous return policy too - if you don't like the wringer.

No? Why would you put the fire out? We had a cast iron old used Jotul woodstove - think something like this - https://www.jotul.com/

It was our only source of heat.

Lol - we did that too. If the fire went out in the middle of the night it got VERY cold. We lived in below zero winter weather - so there was a LOT of motivation to get up and stoke the stove. :)

Also I definitely slept in lots of layers of long underwear.

Yes - these stoves are definitely made for primary heat sources. You stoke them and they burn slow and last for many hours.

Fireplaces are a lot different than wood stoves. :)

They work for some heat - but the wood stoves are totally enclosed and designed to heat homes safely. No sparks can get out. You put wood in and then it just burns slowly. We've lived a few different places with combination wood/gas furnaces. You stoked the furnace - and then if the fire went out the gas kicked in.
