I haven't had issues in a place this dry with them (been borrowing) and neither have any of Matt's coworkers, with good air flow (you don't close the windows), and I keep it on the other side of the place. It's bone dry here and an AC unit would cost way more and be less effective. You'd have to royally bork everything to fuck your electronics any worse than a wall unit AC is gonna do, which would have to be directly next to my desk in this place. All of Scaled uses them in the shops and around the planes so it's not a huge worry when your humidity is below a certain point. A lot of folks in my area have swamp coolers attached to their ceilings and are just fine. It's desert level humidity here, I actually have to use a humidifier or I get constantly bloody noses and asthma attacks (as well as Bearnie).

When it's that hot you make spicy food and drink hot coffee!

 

The damage would occur from too much humidity basically. And like..if you're dumb enough to have it directly next to your computer (which...why?! lol) and when you wanna use an evaporative cooler is when it's super dry. If it's a humid day (which happens on occasion) you would wanna turn that sucker off cause it won't cool for shit anymore and that would bump your humidity too high and become problematic. It's also significantly cheaper. outside of when it snows and occasionally rains, it's always less than 20% humidity and usually more like 1-5% , so it's basically ideal for that type of cooling and even a small one I borrowed was bumping my temp down like 5+ degrees, if not more. It ended up getting to be 88 in my apartment yesterday and I was about to hit the floor in a bad way...and I had to put out fans and stuff for the doggos. I called Matt's coworker in a panic to borrow his smaller cooler again so we wouldn't all die of heat exhaustion. Even tho dry heat isn't nearly as bad, it's still not any kind of fun when the temp is that high in your own home. Summer is here and it's trying to murder us yay. I have windows blocked out and stuff, but this place has shit for structure and let's out/in air so badly. Once I can get it moderately cooler, I usually turn it off anywho and then just run fans and it's pretty dandy for awhile.

tl:dr : there is no humidity here, so it's not problematic. It would be in a higher humidity area tho.

 

I haven't been worshipped enough today. Please remedy this.
