He probably created it to make Turking more efficient for himself, get better at Javascript and have a nice personal project if he wanted to get a job. Then he was nice enough to release it open source.

He could have just been a self taught developer and this was just a tool he built for himself, which isn't uncommon for a lot of people who start out Turking.

In all fairness he did have the same exact identical weird sentence response to an open ended question (nothing as generic as these), and 60 odd percent from the same geographic coordinates, and of those 69% reported being 30 years old. It is suspect in the least.

 

I would also like to state that I think Prolific is behind the bot issue. They make this new site promising that they are not open to the abuses which occur on Mturk etc... and are exploiting this as much as they can and getting the word out that they are safe. Meanwhile, many of us are getting errors every other survey we attempt, if not all. And word from support is that our accounts are normal, but new security measures were put in place and we'll hear back by next week.
