I get deposit emails all the time(including as recently as 11 hours ago) and still haven't gotten anything about the shutdown

 

them actually shutting the site down and then just randomly putting it back up 2 weeks later without telling anyone anything would honestly be the most on brand thing they could possibly do

That explains everything. You found the one person at AWS who knew about MTurk and reminded them about it, and they were like "oh snap, that thing is still on?", and here we are a few months later.

 

I've heard of this being mentioned before, but many have gotten Masters without doing those hits. I got Masters in like 2017 when they gave it to whole bunch of people (900+ ?) but I don't recall doing them myself.

I've also heard of there being different kinds of Masters - like "Categorization Masters" waaay in the past though.

I know you're joking (maybe), but I did have an "uh oh, is this my fault??" moment with that first round of random ban/unban.

 

Yeah, I have categorization, photo, and regular masters from the first time they handed them all out. Not sure how those were done though.

 

They half-broke their email service while migrating it away from Amazon's domain name to a generic @mturk.us-east-1.amazonaws.com (which by itself means that the decision to ultimately nuke MTurk was probably already made by then) and that was in late December or early January iirc, so someone was definitely messing around in there and poking things way before you called, so not your fault.

 

MTurk sure got us and many others through some rough, rough times when it was in it's prime!

 

they should mass dump Masters to everyone on september 29th.
