No, no.... it was self-inflicted.

Shortest version of the story is that boyfriend (now husband) and I got tired of Metro-Detroit (94'-ish) - put some solar panels on a '83 Chevy Van and traveled around the U.S. a few times.

Did some caretaking jobs that ended up with us buying a little A-Frame on a ridge in the middle of nowhere Maine. We had 7 solar panels, a wood stove, composting toilet which was really a system of buckets, hauled our water from a hand pump down the hill and routinely got stuck in ditches in the snow.

Sometimes we had to thaw our long-suffering but happy-go-lucky Golden Retrievers water bowl in the morning if the wood stove went out in the night.

It was an adventure.

That was a long time ago now but I am seriously, seriously grateful everyday for hot water, power, running water and a bathroom.
