Anyone wanna guess who saw nothing but pretty flowers and is now feeling G R E A T this Sunday morning?

 

As someone who lives in Jersey that doesn't allow alcohol to be sold in grocery stores: EXCUSE ME?

Interesting.. I thought our state had a monopoly on insane alcohol rules.

OTOH this experience lends me to believe your law actually makes sense. Because yeah this was actually a big marketing display in the isle in front of the La Croix .. y'know that tropical flavored totally SFW water LOL.

The most upsetting part is that I didn't get ID'd for buying it.. which I'm going to tell myself is because the cashier also had no clue it was alcohol but I'm p sure the computers enforce it unless she checked the "this dude looks 50+ YOLO" button

So anyway gonna open enough of these for my brain to erase that computer knowledge bit

You know, I never understood the reasoning behind that law because there are literal liquor stores everywhere and I always thought it was just to make things inconvenient. Like for Wegmans: they have a separate "building" which is just basically sliding glass doors you can go into, purchase your alcohol, and then go back shopping. It's a separate "liquor store" to bypass the rules. Can't purchase anything else in your cart but the alcohol until you go back to the normal grocery section.

That's why I was always shocked to hear of stories about people buying wine from Target or Walmart. You wouldn't be able to mistake that. But for spiked seltzer that you purchased unknowingly and the cashier didn't even ID you.

I'm gonna go with the cashier not being paid enough to care with the YOLO button.

TLDR; Go back to enjoying your spiked seltzers and forgetting all knowledge. It is Sunday.

Hand over one of those spiked seltzers @ChrisTurk, I also need to forget how dead it is this morning.

 

There were actually some Midwestern states where until recently(May still even be current), not only does alcohol require a separate establishment and separate license from grocery stores, but you can't even buy it from anywhere, even a liquor store, after Saturday midnight until Monday.

Some interesting quotes from Google:

"Three states—Kansas, Mississippi, and Tennessee—are entirely dry by default: counties specifically must authorize the sale of alcohol in order for it to be legal and subject to state liquor control laws."

"Some counties in Florida prohibit alcohol and sex toy sales on Sundays and during certain hours of the day."

That's still us for liquor (must be individual store, no Sunday sales), and beer/etc can be sold in groceries but not on Sunday

Restaurants/bars even need carved out exceptions to serve on Sundays, though I think almost all towns/cities have 'em by now

 

This makes me glad I'm way more of a Wake & Bake girl instead of being an Up & Chug girl.
