hi all, i need help
i think i got hacked or something, got a handful of reset emails from various sites and i cant log into mturk, i sent a reset password request but after i enter the code i get this
To protect against unauthorized access, please answer the following Dynamic Challenge Question (DCQ).
What is the expiration date for your MasterCard ending in ####?
it has my actual card numbers i just replaced them, is that normal for them to ask?
what should i do?
This seems totally fishy to me. I'm not sure what the mTurk reset deal is (which is probs totally legit if anyone on this site weighs in) ---however ---- whatever MC you used for the other various sites - I would immediately cancel that card, flag as fraud and then wait the 3 -5 days for the new mailed card/number. We had this happen to us and it was incredibly inconvenient but cost way less than the hacked charges, which we could ultimately see on our card and was in the thousands of dollars.
Sounds like the original reset emails were fishing scams. I would stop emailing and logging into anything unless you're positive its the secure (lock icon next to url), legitimate version of the website (no variations in the url like dots separating letters). If you think your mturk account has been compromised you could email: firstname.lastname@example.org
@BenSolo great info.
thanks @BenSolo doing that now and thanks @IcyTundra the MC info they are asking for is for one that is no longer valid
if i google mturk the link google gives would be the real one right?
It should but, you might as well put it in manually, its just worker.mturk.com
When I had this happen to me I had to switch MC info and go to different Amex info - if they are saying no longer is valid - than you may need to make sure 100% that card is cancelled and then re-input new info
I guess if I was paying like $6,500/month for my apartment I'd list it on airbnb too.
i think i just called a fake customer support number....
Just go directly to whatever company's website you're trying to reach. Don't click links in email, don't google...just go right to the website. It's the only way to be 100% sure you're not talking to a scammer unfortunately
Morning, all. Long time no see. May all your goals be met and may you be ridiculously bonused with two+ figure amounts.
do i just call the amazon support number or is there one for both mturk and amazon? i can't log into my normal amazon account either. idk how the F this happened my homepage is mturk i dont like search it or type it in when logging in it just pops up and now this...
I don't know re: Amazon - but @ThisPoorGuy is right don't google, go direct to the company's website you are trying to get to. I'm guessing that if your homepage was previously set you're probably going to want to just go around and clear everything and then re-log in.
im on the phone with the real one now a reported the fake but worried if i gave the POS too much of my info...
i called bank already but they got a good amount of info
I think that is what everyone worries about all the time. Having been hacked before and been on the phone with POS peeps, I think that everyone, eventually, should just use commonsense, keep on keeping on, and if it seems sketchy stop, drop and roll.
