It's a children's book and an educational project.

In the book, which is from the 60s, Stanley gets squashed and so he can get put in envelopes and travel.

The educational project is to help kids learn more about different places and whatever. So, you send him to friends and family, they send him to other folks if they can, and they take him on an adventure, take pics, and write to the child about it. It's a lot of fun!

It was really cool when everyone did their flat stanley presentations and we learned about different places, and wrote stories about it, and whatever. I really enjoyed it as a kid and I was thrilled to help take Stanley on his own Clemson adventure and write back about it.

They also have Flat Stanley Hi-tech now!

I do have to say, for those pesky surveys where you're reading something and think "You know what...I think they're going to ask me something unnecessarily detailed about this as an attention check"....the new Firefox's built in screenshot capturing is pretty handy.

I've never heard of a flat stanley either.

Apparently it's something that gained momentum in the 00s, so I'm supposing those who do remember it are in their late teens to early 20s.

I did it in 96? The book is from 1964 though too. I read the book before we did it as a class project.

Aww, I bet yours got to come back with all kinds of useful information about good dental hygeine though! :emoji_joy: That's what every kid wants isn't it?

You know, I could totally peg you as the type that would go all out, too. It sounds like you probably supplied the best adventure!

She is really excited, she was still asking about it and when I told her it finally got found, I don't think i'd seen her that excited in a while. And thank you, it has definitely been rough. This is my first experience with someone close to me dying, and I already don't handle emotional things very well :emoji_sweat_smile:

Here's a picture of her flat stanley! She colored it to look just like her, even down to the outfit she was wearing that day. 728ED7A7-A523-4380-AE51-97187F3DAA7B.png

I'm 45. We did it in elementary school.

In college, a friend had a lifesize cardboard cutout of Luke Skywalker, and would it bring it places like one would Flat Stanley. He went all over the country with her, and she'd take pics. It was beautiful.

Flat Stanely goes to college was a hit with the kids happily. I woulda been crushed if people thought it was lame lol. Luckily, I was able to drag everyone I knew into helping me with it.

That is so adorable! That's an excellent Stanley.

Hugs about your friend. Loss is such a shitty thing because there is really so little we can do except let time pass and hope it hurts less. Sounds like a good friend if they were willing to tote good ol' Stanley around! You can always hold on to that.
